Richard “Rick” Simmons

Richard SimmonsA Graveside Memorial Service for Rick Simmons will be Saturday, October 24, 2015 at 2p.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Sanborn, ND.  He died on October 14th, 2015 at his home in Valley City after a long illness.

Richard Lynn Simmons was born May 2, 1962 in Long Beach, Calif., the son of the late Bobby Ray and Vallie Delphine (Komrosky) Simmons.  He was the fifth of 7 siblings.  He was known as Robby for many years.  He attended school in St. Francis, MN until 1978 and then in Phoenix, AZ.  He graduated from Rio Salado Technical College, Tempe, AZ in 1987.  He studied Sign Language and Small Business Management.

He moved to ND in 1992.  He was employed by Tower Truck Stop in Tower City, ND as a service attendant for four years.   He started construction work while living in Fargo and Oriska, ND, employed by Dietz Construction.  He moved to Valley City four years ago where he was employed by Valley Meat until his illness.  He loved fishing, movies, spending time with friends and family and anything mechanical which he learned from his father at a young age.  He was adventurous and a good-hearted man willing to give anything he had to help others.

He is survived by his two brothers, Harry and Kenny Simmons, both of Valley City, ND, and one sister Jackie (Adrian) Steinbrecher of CO;  special friend and caregiver Tammy Ulmer of Valley City, ND, several nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles and friends.

Rick was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jeff Lloyd and Bonnie (Moore) Simmons and Harry Thurlow and Florence Viola (Hoover) Komrosky; brothers, Robert Daniel and Ronald Dean; and a sister, Rebecca Louise.

There will be a gathering following the burial at Tower City Hall at 3 p.m. in Tower City, ND.

Mary Kringlie

Mary KringlieMary Kringlie, age 86 of Moorhead, MN and formerly of Valley City, died Oct. 19, 2015 at Sanford Palliative Care in Fargo.  Private family services will be conducted with burial in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Valley City, ND.

Mary May “Gamma” Nicoli was born May 14, 1929 at Valley City, ND the daughter of Louis and Gertrude (Koehn) Nicoli.  She attended school in Valley City, graduating in 1947.  On Feb. 14, 1948 she married Jack Kringlie at Moorhead, MN.  They were married for 50 years until Jack’s passing in 1998.  They raised three children, Ross, Bruce, and Mary, all born in Valley City.  Jack and Mary moved to Fargo in 1955 and later moved to West Fargo in 1964.  Mary started working for J.C. Penney Co in 1960 and then Herbst Dept. Store where she was the personnel manager.  She retired in 1976 and the couple bought a small farm at Christine, ND, where Mary continued teaching ceramic classes and gardening.  They returned to Valley City in 1988 and began many years of woodworking projects.  Mary also loved to crochet.  In 1998 she moved back to the Fargo area and was able to live independently up until the time of her death.

Nothing was more important to her than family.  She was affectionately known by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren as “Gamma”.  She loved playing bridge, pinochle, and cribbage; and would play any game with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her sons: Dr. Ross (Lorri) Kringlie, Bozeman, MT, Bruce (Peggy) Kringlie, Fargo, ND, and a daughter, Mary (Don) Hager, Norman, OK;  grandchildren: Kelly Kringlie, Ryan (Stephanie) Kringlie, Kari (Chris) Wehri, Mary Alyssa (Dustin) Hamburg, Tessa Hager, Jacob (Cat) Hager, Beth Kringlie (William Kushner), Rebecca (Greg) Diemer, Jennifer (Todd) Pederson, Jessica (Jon) Stites, and Jamie (Kasey) Kringlie; and 32 great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack, parents, 2 sisters, and a brother.

She will be missed but “we will talk about that later”.

Patricia WitcherPatricia Witcher, 69, Valley City, ND, passed away Sunday, October 18, 2015, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, North Dakota. A wake will be held at 7pm Friday, Oct 23 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church in Valley City, ND. The funeral will be at 10:30am Saturday, Oct 24 at St. Catherine’s Catholic Church.

She was born November 26, 1945 to Elmer & Dorothy (Larson) Seidlinger (Fargo, ND). She was raised in Wimbledon, ND; she later lived in Washington state and eventually made a life back in ND. She loved knitting, cooking and baking. Patricia was a kind, loving and very hard working single mother who raised five children. She is survived by her five children, Michael (Karen) Jablon, Laurie Bell, Jennifer Vollmer, Steven (Deb) Witcher, and Elizabeth Dion; and grandchildren: Maisy, Ethan, and Anna (Jablon); Bryce, Alyssa, and Louis (Bell); Kail, Dylan, and Zachary (Vollmer); Laeloni, Carl, and Kyra (Witcher); and Taylor, Nathan, and Ben (Dion). She is also survived by her brothers: James Seidlinger, and Gerald (Kim) Seidlinger; and sisters: Jean (Harold) Ust, and Dorothy (Ron) Stevens. She is preceded in death by her parents and nephew Douglas Neva.

Lucille Dosch

Lucille DoschLucille (Lucy) Dosch, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, aunt, sister, friend to so many, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at home on Tuesday, October 20.

Lucy was born in Emmons County, ND, on June 8, 1932.  She graduated from St. Mary’s Central High School in Bismarck in 1952.  Lucy grew up on the family farm near Strasburg, ND and loved to be outside working with the horses.  This is a love she carried through her life with her love of gardening and yardwork.  Growing up, she had a deep family attachment to Holy Trinity (Krassna) Catholic Church where she learned to play the organ so she could be the organist at Mass.

Lucy was a cook and hostess extraordinaire.  She had the gift of beautiful hospitality she graciously shared with all.  Lucy enjoyed deep friendships, a love of playing cards and attending local basketball games.  She was a woman of deep faith with an immense love for her church.

Lucy and Jake celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on June 7, 2015.  She is survived by her husband, her children Susan Olson (Dean), Henry, SD, Laura Nygard (Todd), Williston, ND, Sandra Fearing (Mitch), Williston, ND, Robert Dosch (Karen), Grand Forks, ND, and Jerald Dosch (Dixie), Saint Paul, MN; her grandchildren Christopher, Rachel, Stuart, Mollie, Vance, Marcus, Mallory, Benjamin, Emily, Wesley, Katherine, Lauren, Ian, Aidan, Ava and Lucy; and her brothers and sisters Loretta, Vivian, Ray, Nina, and Joy.  She was preceded in death by her parents Katherina and John Braun, her brothers Alvin and Wilfred and her sisters Florence and Alicia.

Her funeral Mass will be held at St. Catherine’s Church on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 10:30 AM.  Visitation will be at St. Catherine’s Church from 5PM until 6:45PM.  Prayer service will be held at St. Catherine’s on Thursday at 7 pm.  Rosary will be prayed at 6:45 for those who wish to join the family.  Burial will be at St. Catherine’s Cemetery in Valley City immediately after the funeral.

Merle Jansen

Merle JansenMerle Jansen, age 84, of Valley City, ND, died Tuesday, October 20th at his residence.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 24th at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City with Reverend Jolene Knudson-Hanse officiating.  Visitation will be held two hours before the service at the church on Saturday morning.  Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Merle Allen Jansen, the son of Hubert and Blanche (Chalberg) Jansen, was born March 25, 1931 in Valley City, ND.  Merle grew up and attended school in Valley City and attended college at Valley City State Teachers College.  On January 10, 1951 Merle joined the US Air Force and served his country during the Korean War.  On June 8, 1952 he married LaVancha Maasjo at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Fingal, ND.  On December 10, 1953 Merle was discharged from active duty and returned to the Valley City area.  Merle began working for O.H. Blumer Construction where Merle was a welder for the company until his retirement in 1996.  Merle and LaVancha purchased land south of Valley City on the Kathryn Road and they and their son Jay moved “Out of Town” in November, 1972.  They had the first Dynamic Home south of town and it was shown as a model home for many years by David Nelson.  Merle farmed his land south of Valley City for many years.  Merle was known to enjoy a good cup of coffee, gardening, Bingo, slot machines and visiting at Hilltop Café.  Merle was an active member of the Valley City Eagles Club and VFW Post #2764.

Merle is survived by his wife of 63 years, LaVancha, Valley City, ND; one son, Jay (Jeff Ware) Jansen, Fargo, ND; his brother, Willard “Will” Jansen, Tuscon, AZ; his sister, Bernice Russ, Rocky, OK; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Merle was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

Eileen Domek

Eileen Domek, 75, Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly of Jamestown, ND, died Thursday, October 22, 2015 after a long battle with cancer.

Eileen Babcock was born October 29, 1939 at Jamestown, ND, the daughter of Clarence Babcock and Pauline (Seher) Babcock. She received her education at Jamestown schools and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1957.

She and Fred Domek were married April 13, 1958 at Montpelier, ND. They farmed near Montpelier for a short time. They moved to Jamestown where she was a Ward Clerk for 20 plus years. They retired in 1999 and moved to Detroit Lakes, MN. After the death of her husband in 2004, she continued to reside there.

She is survived by one daughter, Teresa (Jim) Warren, Duluth, MN; one son, Timothy (Katie) Domek, Detroit Lakes, MN; five grandchildren; and one very special Husky named Elley.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one son, Terry.

Graveside Service for both Fred and Eileen will be at 1:00 PM Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Highland Home Cemetery in Jamestown, ND with Pastor Bryce Tahran, officiating.

Michael Chamness

Michael Chamness, 76, Jamestown, ND died October 20, 2015 at his home in Jamestown, ND

Michael was born April 3, 1939 at Fort Wayne, IN, the son of Harold W. Chamness and Isabelle F. (Kelly) Chamness. He received his elementary education in the local school. He then attended college for 2 years majoring in English Literature. On October 25, 1962 he entered the US Army. He was discharged August 28, 1964 at Fort Bliss, TX with the rank of PFC.

Willie Kamletz

Willie KamletzWillie L. Kamletz, 93, of Jamestown, ND, passed away October 23, 2015 at Eventide under hospice care.

Willie was born February 24, 1922, at Merricourt, ND, one of twelve children to Lou and Gladys (Gilpin) Kamletz. He was raised on farms in the area near Whitestone Battlefield, Berlin, Grand Rapids, and Dickey, ND. Willie enlisted in the US Navy during WWII, serving duty in Panama and the Pacific theater on the USS Dayton as a cook. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and married Helen Irene Baumann in October 1948 at Washburn, ND. They farmed in the Dickey, ND area until 1963, and then moved to Oakes, ND. Willie worked various jobs including highway construction before moving to Fargo, ND to work for the park district as head custodian at Lindenwood Park. Helen passed away in 1975 and Willie married Geneva Wolski in November 1979 in Fargo. Willie retired from the park district in 1986 and moved to Cleveland, ND, then to Jamestown. Geneva passed away in September 2010. He worked various custodial jobs, including churches and an eye care center, and mowed lawns in Cleveland and Jamestown. He also volunteered ringing bells for the Salvation Army for three decades and distributing candy for various businesses during Halloween. Willie was also a member of the Montpelier Club where they would get together to play cards, bingo, and have refreshments.  He also loved to feed his birds and squirrels outside his apartment window. 

Willie is survived by his son, Darwin, Jamestown; daughter, Jan, Jamestown; daughters, Mary Etta Moore, Baxter, MN, Cindy (Harry) Groves, Casper, WY; son, Charles “Chuck” (Linda) Wolski, Bismarck, ND; brothers, Richard (Jane) Kamletz, Jamestown, Roger (Helene) Kamletz and Eldon (Rusty) Kamletz, both of Edgeley, ND; sister, Luella Morris, Renton, WA; and many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wives, two sisters and five brothers.

Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 28, 2015 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown, with Rev. Arlyn Coalter officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Prayer Service: 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church, Jamestown.

Interment: 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 30, 2015 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.

Kyle Wegenast

Kyle WegenastKyle Wilbert Wegenast was born on October 29, 1992 in Sedona, AZ and died in Tucson, AZ on October 18th, 2015 at age 22. He graduated from Sabino High School, Tucson, AZ in 2011.

Kyle’s interests included fishing, painting, gardening and fireworks. Kyle traveled across the USA singing in a professional hip hop music group. Kyle’s mentors, Eric and Delora Sillman, took him to the Philippines.

Kyle is survived by Margaret Wegenast, grandmother, Edgeley, ND, Sharon Dowell (Don), aunt in Cupertino, CA, and Carol Wegenast, aunt, Mountain View, CA.

Kyle was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Wegenast and grandfather, Wilbert Wegenast.

Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 29, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Edgeley, ND with Rev. Alan Eppen officiating.

Deborah Melland

Deborah Jean Melland passed away in her home on Monday, October 19, 2015. Deb was born October 4, 1951 in Jamestown, North Dakota. She attended Dana College in Blair, Nebraska and completed her bachelor’s degree at Jamestown College.

She taught elementary school in Rugby, North Dakota and then in the Jamestown School District, mostly at Gussner School, until she retired. She enjoyed music and played the piano for several local organizations and groups. Deb was a lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Jamestown and shared her musical talents with the congregation there as well as Immanuel Lutheran Church. She had a great heart for cats and had many of them as pets over the years, always bringing them home from the Humane Society where she also volunteered.

She is survived by her step-mother, Angie Melland (Ed Schmalz); her brother, Jim (Helen) Melland; two nieces, Betsy (Walker) Asserson and Katie (Eric) Lowe and their families; and her aunt, Phyllis (Ray) Seiler.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Helen and Robert Melland.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Emily Program Foundation (an Eating Disorders Treatment Program), 1295 Bandana Blvd. W., Ste. 210, St. Paul, MN 55108.

Gaylen Aas

Gaylen AasGaylen Aas, age 75, of Valley City, ND, died Thursday, October 29th at Mercy Hospital in Valley City.  A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, November 3rd at Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City.  Visitation will be held on Monday, November 2nd from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home and one hour before the service at the church on Tuesday morning.  A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Monday evening at the funeral home.  Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City.

Gaylen Orvis Aas, the son of Jens and Agnes (Olstad) Aas, was born February 27, 1940 in Valley City, ND.  Gaylen grew up in the Kathryn, ND area where his mother died when he was very young.  Gaylen was raised by his father, brothers and his sister.  He attended and graduated 8th grade at the Ellis-Nelson School near Kathryn, ND.  He was baptized at the Sheyenne Lutheran Church and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Kathryn in 1955.  He married Barbara Hicks in April, 1961.  Gaylen worked for various farmers in the area and was a self-taught carpenter.  He also worked for the North Dakota State Highway Department in Valley City for 35 years.  He did various jobs for the DOT including planting many trees along I-94 from Tappen to Tower City, ND.  He was very proud of these trees as they were all planted as saplings which are now established trees.  His wife Barbara passed away on November 3, 1993.  In October, 1996 Gaylen had a severe stroke that left him paralyzed on his right side and took his speech.  His significant other, Carol Nelson helped him live on his own until 2004 at which time he became a resident of the Sheyenne Care Center.  Gaylen did very well with his handicap and enjoyed life the best he could.  Gaylen enjoyed doing puzzles, enjoyed dancing and country music, going for rides in the car, playing BINGO, watching western movies and driving his mobility scooter everywhere.  He was known to sing in the halls at the Care Center and you were only a stranger to him once.  Gaylen was a member of the Valley City Eagles Club.

Gaylen is survived by his significant other, Carol Nelson, Valley City; one brother, Vernon (Lois) Aas, Valley City, ND; one sister-in-law, Doris Aas, Valley City, ND; and several nieces and nephews.

Gaylen was preceded in death by his parents, wife Barbara, his brothers Alden, Jimmy, Kenneth and David, and one sister, Delphine.

In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the Sheyenne Valley Cemetery, Jim Stevens, president, 4423 County Road 21, Valley City, ND  58072.

Donna LeeLaDonna Louise Lee, 71, was granted her angel wings on Wednesday, October 28th, 2015 at her home in Fargo, ND.  “Donna” was born on June 11, 1944 to Harvey and Olive Aman in Bremerton, WA.  On September 3, 1960 she married the love of her life, Curtis Lee. They called Valley City, Tower City, Carrington and Jamestown home for the 52 years they were together.  Curtis passed away in 2012.

Donna’s final days were spent surrounded by family and friends; she touched the lives of many through her lifetime.  Although her life was cut short, she was able to live it to the fullest, savoring and cherishing every moment.  She understood that quality of life was more important than the amount of years lived here on earth.  She loved to spend time with friends and family, gardening, reading and traveling.  During her illness, she spent most of her time with family and friends – hosting and spending quality time with them.  Although her frail body began to give up to the disease, her fighting spirit led to her living longer than expected before peacefully ascending to heaven, where she is no longer suffering.

Donna is survived by her daughter Dianne (Donald) Bear of Jamestown, ND; grand children Hannah McInnes of Bismarck, ND, Adrian McInnes of Des Moines IA, Alex McInnes of Jamestown, ND, Chanteal Lee and Marquee Lee of Palm Springs, CA; step-children Curtis (Jill) Bear, Fort Collins, CO, Andrew (Jamie) Bear, Jamestown, ND, Dona (Richard) Schock, Kindred, ND, and Joseph (Lenae) Bear, Jamestown, ND; great grandchildren Bailey and Brianna Schock, Jacie and Brinley Bear, and Maxwell and Kora Bear; and her Husband in Christ for 2 years, Dennis Richman of Fargo, ND.
 
She is preceded in death by her husband Curtis Lee, son Steven Lee, infant daughter Linda Lee, son-in-law Kim McInnes, parents and a brother.

Louise Schneekloth

Louise SchneeklothLouise Schneekloth, age 95, of Valley City, ND and formerly of Tower City, ND died Nov. 1, 2015 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Oriska, ND with Rev. Arogyo Gadigotti, celebrant, and Deacon James McAllister assisting. Visitation will be from 5 PM until 6:45 PM Wednesday at St. Bernard’s Church with a Rosary beginning at 6:45. The Prayer Service will begin at 7:00 PM. Interment will take place in Buffalo Cemetery, Buffalo, ND.

Louise was born Dec. 23, 1919 at Fingal, ND, the daughter of John and Agnes (Wurzer) Koller. She was married to Ralph Schneekloth of Buffalo, ND on Dec. 30, 1937. Ralph died in 1981. Over the years Louise worked at the Tower View Café, the Valley City Elks, and the Valley City Country Club, and was a cook at the Maple Valley High School for 21 years. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and the Tower City Senior Citizens. Louise has been a resident of the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City since 2009.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents, husband Ralph, sons Douglas (2003) and Clifford (2010), two brothers, and four sisters. Survivors include her son Lynn (Debra) Schneekloth, Tower City, ND, daughter Susan Bautista, Mt. Terrace, WA, daughter-in-law Kathi Schneekloth, Mt. Sharon L. Johnson, 68, of Gackle, ND, formerly of Arthur, ND, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2015 at Villa Maria, Fargo, ND.

Sharon Lee Johnson was born December 10, 1946 in Eveleth, St. Louis County, Minnesota, the daughter of Roy and Maime (Wiitala) Rinell. She was raised in the Lutheran faith and was married to Clifford A. Johnson, and later to James E. Swenson.  Sharon was an occupation therapist and involved with Girls Scouts and 4-H.  Her hobbies included reading, crafts, and word search puzzles.

Sharon is survived by a son; daughter; and grandchildren.

Courtney NelsonCourtney Nelson, age 23, of Valley City died Nov. 2, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Valley City.  Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Friday, Nov. 6, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City with Rev. JoAnne Moeller officiating.  Visitation will be from 5PM until 7PM Thursday, Nov. 5th at Trinity Lutheran Church.  Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery at Valley City.

Courtney Marie Nelson was born July 10, 1992 at Valley City, ND, the daughter of Robert and Dee (Tuenge) Nelson.  She enjoyed listening to music, watching movies, going for walks with her family and friends, and spending time with her nieces and nephews.  She graduated from Valley City High School in May of 2013 and later went on to the Open Door Activity Center, making many friends along the way.

Honorary Pallbearers will be her sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and staff of the Open Door Center, and the Senior Citizen bus drivers.  Active pallbearers will be Randy Nelson, Royce Nelson, Steve Monilaws, and Rick Idland.

Courtney is survived by her parents Robert and Dee Nelson, Valley City, ND; grandparents Earl and Connie Behm, Valley City, ND; sisters Trisha (Brian) Steiner, Mapleton, ND, Laurie (Ben) Nelson, Cooperstown, ND, Megan Kankelfritz, Phoenix, AZ, and Kristin Nelson, Valley City, ND; and nieces and nephews Emilea and Isaac Steiner, Mapleton, ND, and Hawken, Corbin, and Purdee Nelson, Cooperstown, ND.  She was preceded in death by grandparents Henry and Martha Tuenge and Royce Nelson, Sr.

Richard Steinwand

Richard SteinwandRichard Arnold Steinwand, 87, of Edgeley, ND, passed away Friday evening, November 6, 2015 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born October 9, 1928, in Merricourt, ND, the son of David and Elizabeth (Wiederrich) Steinwand. He grew up and attended school in Merricourt, playing baseball on the local team. Richard worked for farmers in the Merricourt area in his teens.  He married Shirley Ann Kruse in Kulm, ND on November 18, 1951. They made their home near Edgeley where they farmed until 1964. The family moved to Ontario, CA where Richard was a brick layer for 35 years.  He was a member of the local Elks lodge and the Inland Valley Rod & Gun Club. Shirley died in 2004 and Richard moved back to Edgeley in May 2005.  He married Betty Freih of Bowman, ND on October 5, 2006 and they made their home in Edgeley. 

Richard was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, and playing pinochle with his friends.

Richard is survived by his wife, Betty Steinwand, Edgeley; son, Richard (special friend, Twyla Ernst) Steinwand, Jr., Edgeley; daughter, Sheila (Jim) Brenton, Alta Loma, CA; son, Steven (Cathy) Steinwand, Apple Valley, CA; six grandchildren, Stacie Fulk, Beau Brenton, Christopher Brenton, Seth Steinwand, Jake Steinwand and Michael Steinwand, Jr.; nine great-grandchildren, Tylor and MacKenzie Fulk, Reed, Brea, and Lane Richard Brenton, and Haiden, Dawson, Lane, and Kamdin Steinwand; and two step children, Terry Freih and LeeAnn Freih.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Shirley; two grandsons, Mike Steinwand and Ian Steinwand; three brothers, August, Edwin, and Ervin; and one sister, Esther.

Memorial Service: 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, Edgeley, ND with Rev Alan Eppen officiating.

Renee SchmokerRenee Schmoker, 46, of Dickey, ND, passed away on Saturday evening, November 7, 2015 at Fargo, ND.

Renee Schmoker was born on September 1, 1969, in Jamestown, the daughter of Noel and Julia (Wilkes) Schmoker. She grew up on the family farm near Dickey and graduated from LaMoure High School in 1988. Renee lived in Denver, CO for a few years, then moved to Grand Forks, ND, where she attended UND. She moved to Jamestown where she worked at Lucas Aerospace as a machinist while attending Jamestown College. Renee obtained a degree in I.T. in 2002 from Jamestown College and has worked in the offices at UTC Aerospace since.

Renee was a member and youth coach with A.Q.H.A., a member and trustee of Assumption Catholic Church, and a member of a Jamestown bowling league.

She enjoyed reading, crocheting, baking and making unique foods. Renee loved hockey and NDSU football, and especially her nieces and nephews.

Renee is survived by her parents, Noel and Julia Schmoker, Dickey; brother, Brian Schmoker, Minot, ND; brother, Todd (Cori) Schmoker, Pingree, ND; sister, Lori (Lyndon) Modin, Fargo; sister, Tracy Schmoker, Dickey; sister, Barbara (Jonathan) Alber, Marion; brother, Michael Schmoker, Dickey; seven nieces and nephews, Danielle and Samantha Schmoker, Cadence, Barrett, and Hunter Modin; and Trisha and Jacey Alber.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents and two aunts.

Mass of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Thursday, November 12, 2015 at Assumption Catholic Church, Dickey, with Deacon Neal Schlosser officiating.

Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown.

Delphine SulskyDelphine Sulsky, 86, Jamestown, ND died Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the Ave Maria Village in Jamestown, ND.

Delphine was born February 1, 1929 at Williston, ND, the daughter of Estin and Anna (Horob) Sulsky. She attended the Pioneer School. She later attended the School of the Blind at Bathgate. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education and taught for a short time.

She met Richard Nitschke at Camp Grassick and spent many years together. Delphine always enjoyed camp outs for the blind every summer.

Delphine is survived by many cousins, close friends, Chuck and Marlene Axtman, and Roger and Judy Anderson, all of Jamestown, ND.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Clarice SchmokerClarice Helen (Gilbert) Schmoker, 77, of Jamestown, ND, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, November 11, 2015 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Clarice was born on December 13, 1937, in Bismarck, ND, the daughter of Oscar and Helen (Paul) Gilbert. She lived in Moffit, ND and moved several times because her father worked for the railroad. Clarice attended school in Moffit, ND, Hensler, ND, and graduated from Killdeer High School in 1955. She attended Business College in Jamestown and then was employed by Ward’s. Clarice moved to Minneapolis for two years where she worked for 3M. In 1959, Clarice moved back to Jamestown and was employed by First National Bank and the North Dakota State Hospital. On December 13, 1959 (on her birthday), Clarice married Clifford Schmoker. They have four children, Susan (Duane) Nordlum, Nancy (Bryan) Burow, Bonnie Nygaard, and Barbara Erickson. Clarice also has seven grandchildren, Amber (Ben) Backstrom, Jared Nygaard, Jessica Nygaard, Brittney Nygaard, Justin Burow, Amanda Erickson, and Kendra Erickson. Also surviving are sister, Jean Larsen; brother, Bill (Bertha) Gilbert; four great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Abigail, Sophia, and Chloe Backstrom; sister-in-law, Joyce Schmoker; and several nieces and nephews.

Clarice was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar & Helen Gilbert; sister & brother-in-law, Ruth & Ray Bulman; brother, Delvin Gilbert; brother-in-law, Arthur Larsen; mother & father-in-law, Ethel & George Schmoker; and brother-in-law, Wallace Schmoker.

Clarice enjoyed her time with her family and reading books. She spent a lot of time at their family cabin where she loved playing with her grandchildren and cuddling them. She was notorious for rocking her grandchildren and singing her version of lullabies. Her sister, Jean, spent many summers with her and they loved this time together. Clarice and Cliff spent time in Arizona during the winter months. Clarice and Cliff spent a lot of their time gardening, fishing, and playing cards. She loved to go to her grandchildren’s activities and she & Cliff were always baking and cooking for their family. Clarice will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.

Nina Haro

Nina HaroNina Marvel Irene Haro, 82, Gackle, ND, died Friday November 13, 2015 at the Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck, ND, due to complications of a stroke.

Nina was born August 24, 1933 at the family farm home northwest of Fredonia, ND, the daughter of Abner and Edna (Ollila) Haro. She attended Ellendale High School and graduated from the American Schools High School and College Program.

In 1955 she moved to Gackle with her parents, to her present home where she has lived the past 60-plus years.

A compassionate and loving person, Nina cared for both her parents in her home for over 50 years, through illnesses and convalescences. In her later life she suffered from limited mobility due to arthritis. Her home was her passion, flowers, shrubs, gardens, trees, and cooking delicious meals for family and friends, whenever they stopped to visit and during the holidays––hospitality par excellence.

Nina loved to travel, visiting relatives in Finland and Europe with her parents and nephew Justin. She also traveled to the southwest to New Mexico, Arizona, California, and also Oregon and Washington.

She will always be lovingly remembered for her sisu, her indomitable passion to overcome all problems. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her sisters, Evelyn Johnson, Aurora, MN, and Ruth (James) Doll, Glen Ullin, ND; nephew, Justin Anderson, Powers, MN; 2 nieces, Jessica (Mike) Wilkens, and Jackie (Greg) Kramer, St. Charles, MN; great nephew, Matthew Wilkens; great niece, Cassandra Kramer; and numerous cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Abner and Edna Haro.

Visitation – 1 hour before the service at the church
